A Brief
History
In 1991, the vision of 'Children
for Christ was given to a Scottish couple and a Romanian national, when
they met in Arad, Romania, during a humanitarian aid trip.
Harry and Wilma Somerville and Viorica Jorza formed 'Copii Pentru
Christos' soon after, and so began a work to be blessed by God 'more
than they could have asked or imagined'
Harry
and Wilma Somerville and Viorica Jorza along with Casi, Christina and
Eni all live and work in Arad, SW Romania and are in the ministry full
time.
What
the Romanian team do...
Summer Camp
For
10 weeks each summer since 1994, in the beautiful village of Virfurile,
a camp is run, and 450+ children bring the place alive. Many of
them are under-privileged, gipsy or orphaned but they are loved, fed and
clothed and sound Bible teaching is combined with much fun and laughter.
Training
Teaching
and training form a large part of the work. Throughout the year,
in and around the city of Arad, young leaders are taught how to pass on
the Gospel message.
Bible
Clubs
Children gather regularly in homes for
weekly Bible Clubs. These provide teaching and Christian
fellowship for children who otherwise may never hear about Jesus
Christ. '5 day clubs' are held impromptu at many venues during
school holidays.
Shop
All year round collection of good quality clothes,
food, first aid and cleaning materials in the UK is given away or sold
at low costs to allow the ministry to be financed. The shops are
located in homes of local Christians and also provide work and
evangelistic opportunities.
